PM JANMAN (Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan) is a government initiative launched in November 2023 with a budget of ₹24,000 crore. It aims to improve the socio-economic conditions of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) in India.
OBJECTIVES
Provide safe housing, clean drinking water, and sanitation.
Reach 4.90 lakh PVTG households by 2026.
Ensure each household receives ₹2.39 lakh in three instalments for housing.
CHALLENGES FACED
Registration Issues: The use of the 'Awaas+' mobile app for registration has led to confusion and errors.
Data Mismatch: Discrepancies in village data between the app and MGNREGA records cause confusion.
Jobcard Requirement: Deletion of MGNREGA jobcards has made many PVTGs ineligible for registration.
Network Issues: Geo-tagging problems due to poor network connectivity.
Bank Selection Complexity: The app's cumbersome bank selection process complicates registration.
RECOMMENDED SOLUTIONS
Streamline Registration: Simplify the mobile app and ensure it captures accurate data.
Include IPPB: Add India Post Payments Bank to the list of banks in the app.
Reinstate Jobcards: Proactively reinstate deleted jobcards to ensure eligibility.
Community Engagement: Involve gram sabhas and local leaders to support the registration process and address issues.
IMPORTANCE OF PM JANMAN
The initiative has the potential to significantly improve the living conditions of PVTGs and integrate them into India's growth story. Ensuring effective implementation and addressing existing challenges is crucial for its success.
