Operation Ajay: Evacuation of Indian Nationals from Israel
India initiates a major operation to bring back its citizens from conflict-hit Israel. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announces special chartered flights for evacuation, marking the second such effort this year. Operation Ajay follows the successful Operation Kaveri that rescued Indian citizens from Sudan earlier.
Mr. Jaishankar expresses India's commitment to the safety and well-being of its nationals abroad.
The Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv begins contacting registered Indian citizens for the first special flight departing on Thursday, with plans for subsequent flights.
The evacuation comes amidst heightened tensions in the region, including Hamas attacks, Israeli airstrikes in Gaza, and involvement of Hezbollah from southern Lebanon.
India establishes a 24-hour control room in New Delhi, Tel Aviv, and Ramallah, reflecting its readiness to respond to the evolving situation.
Notably, there are around 900 Indian students in Israeli universities and institutions, along with a significant presence of Indian professionals and workers in the country.
India prioritizes the safe return of its citizens amid these challenging circumstances.
