In a significant anti-piracy operation, the Indian Navy accomplished a commendable feat by intercepting and liberating the hijacked Iranian fishing vessel, Al-Kambar. The operation, executed by the naval ships Sumedha and Trishul, culminated late on Friday with the capture of the vessel from pirates’ control.
The pirates, aboard the hijacked vessel, were coerced into surrendering after enduring over 12 hours ofintensive tactical maneuvers, adhering strictly to the Standard Operating Procedures. The successful negotiation led to the rescue of 23 crew members, all of whom are Pakistani nationals, ensuring their safety from potential harm.
The Navy’s immediate response was triggered by intelligence of a piracy incident near Socotra, prompting the redeployment of INS Sumedha and INS Trishul, which were already stationed in the Arabian Sea for maritime security duties. The operation began in the early hours of Friday, with INS Sumedha first intercepting Al-Kambar, followed by support from the guided missile frigate INS Trishul.
This incident underscores the persistent threat of piracy in the Arabian Sea and off the coast of Somalia, highlighting the importance of vigilance and quick response in maritime security. It also marks the latest effort by the Indian Navy to maintain safety and security in these troubled waters, reflecting their capability and readiness to address such challenges effectively.
The crew’s rescue and the vessel’s recovery are crucial steps in ensuring the safety of maritime activities and the well-being of seafarers in the region. The operation also emphasizes the necessity of international cooperation and the role of naval forces in combating piracy and securing international waters for safe and peaceful navigation.
