FIRST INDIGENOUS LOITERING MUNITION: NAGASTRA-1

Solar Industries, based in Nagpur, has delivered the first indigenously developed Loitering Munition, Nagastra-1, to the Indian Army. The Indian Army has ordered 480 Loiter Munitions from Solar Industries’ Economic Explosives Ltd (EEL) under Emergency Procurement Powers. Recently, EEL delivered 120 Loiter Munitions to an Army Ammunition Depot after successful pre-delivery inspections.

Key Features of Nagastra-1

• Functionality: Nagastra-1 is a UAV-based system that functions as an aerial ambush. It can hover above the target area and is capable of aborting an attack if necessary, allowing for safe retrieval.

• Kamikaze Mode: In this mode, Nagastra-1 can neutralize hostile threats with GPS-enabled precision strikes, achieving an accuracy of 2 meters. It destroys both the target and itself.

• Stealth Capability: The UAV can fly at an altitude of over 4,500 meters, making it undetectable by radar. It can loiter in the air and strike when the target arrives, for example, a caravan carrying a militant leader.

• Endurance and Range: The fixed-wing electric UAV has an endurance of 60 minutes. It has a man-in-loop range of 15 km and an autonomous mode range of 30 km.

• Surveillance and Warhead: Equipped with day-night surveillance cameras, Nagastra-1 has a warhead capable of defeating soft-skin targets.

• Advanced Features: The loiter munition can abort missions, recover, and be reused. It can make a soft landing using a parachute if the target is not detected or the mission is aborted.
