Ecomark Scheme for Eco-Friendly Products

The Ministry of Environment has introduced the revamped Ecomark Scheme, aimed at promoting eco-friendly products and enabling consumers to make informed choices. Here’s what you need to know:

Revised Ecomark Notification: The new Ecomark Scheme, which came into effect on October 13, 2023, replaces the previous notification issued on February 21, 1991. This update aligns with modern environmental standards and practices.

Accreditation and Labeling: Under the Ecomark Scheme, household and consumer products meeting specific environmental criteria are eligible for accreditation and labeling. This labeling indicates that the product is environmentally friendly while maintaining quality standards in accordance with Indian norms.

Minimal Environmental Impact: Products accredited under the Ecomark Scheme are expected to adhere to stringent environmental criteria. This commitment ensures that these products have a minimal environmental impact, contributing to sustainability and eco-conscious consumer choices.

By recasting the Ecomark Scheme, the Ministry of Environment aims to empower consumers to select products that are not only of high quality but also environmentally responsible in their design and production processes.
