E-SHRAM PORTAL: CRITICAL OVERVIEW

The e-Shram portal, launched by the Government of India on 26 August 2021, serves as the first-ever national database of unorganised sector workers. It includes a wide range of workers such as migrant workers, construction workers, and gig and platform workers. This initiative aims to facilitate the extension of social sector schemes’ benefits to these workers.

REGISTRATION STATISTICS

As of 20 June, approximately 29.7 crore unorganised workers have registered on the e-Shram portal.

TOP FIVE STATES BY REGISTRATION

The top five states account for 58% of the total registrations on the portal. Here is a breakdown of the leading states:

1. Uttar Pradesh: Over 8 crore registrations
2. Bihar: Significant number of registrations
3. West Bengal: Notable number of registrations
4. Other Leading States: Two more states with high registration numbers contribute to this total.

The e-Shram portal represents a significant step towards recognizing and supporting the unorganised workforce in India, ensuring they receive the benefits and protections they are entitled to.
