Overview:

The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri-Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) is a significant health assurance scheme in India, providing Rs.5 lakh annual health cover per family for secondary and tertiary hospitalizations. It’s considered the world’s largest publicly funded health scheme.

Key Data Points:

1. Women Beneficiaries: Approximately 49% of the 28.45 crore Ayushman cards are held by women, also accounting for 48% of total hospital admissions.

2. Scheme Coverage: Covers 55 crore individuals (12 crore families). Some States and Union Territories have expanded this base further.

3. Ayushman Cards Issued: Till December 2023, about 28.45 crore cards were issued, with 9.38 crore created in 2023 alone.

4. Hospital Admissions and Costs: 6.11 crore hospital admissions authorized under the scheme, totaling Rs.78,188 crore. In 2023, 1.7 crore admissions were worth over Rs.25,000 crore. 5. Empanelled Hospitals: 26,901 hospitals, including 11,813 private ones, are part of the scheme.

6. Health Screenings: 55.66 crore screenings for hypertension, 48.44 crore for diabetes, 32.8 crore for oral cancer, 14.9 crore for cervical cancer, and over 10.04 crore for breast cancer have been conducted.

7. Yoga/Wellness Sessions: 2.80 crore sessions held in operational Ayushman Arogya Mandir as of December 15.

The AB PM-JAY scheme plays a crucial role in providing accessible and affordable healthcare to a vast section of the Indian population, especially in underprivileged communities. Its wide reach and comprehensive coverage demonstrate a significant step towards improved public health in India.
