USA urges India to talk to Taliban directly to ensure peace in the region. Why? Also discuss why India has been reluctant for the same?
According to the US, India should discuss its concerns on terrorism directly with the Taliban.
It adds that India could play a “more active role” in the Afghan reconciliation process.
As per USA, India is an important force in Afghanistan and it would be appropriate that India-Taliban engagement to take place
It also says that India had a significant role in Afghanistan’s development, but paradoxically, doesn’t play a role in it’s international peace efforts.
India has been reluctant to talk to taliban because it still considers the Taliban a terror group allied to Pakistan and has therefore thus far distanced itself from any talks.
Talking to Taliban may also give formality and acceptance to other terror groups in Pakistan and they may try to compel India for any undue demand as a compromise to stop terror attacks.
Pakistan may also use this as an excuse to blame India and question India’s commitment and credibility to fight terror.
