Discuss the purpose of Nirbhaya Fund with example(s).
1. Government of India has set up a dedicated fund called Nirbhaya Fund in 2013 for implementation of initiatives aimed at enhancing the safety and security of women in the country.
2. Under the Nirbhaya Fund, the proposed projects should have the features like direct impact on safety and security concerns of women and promote optimum use of existing infrastructure and innovative use of technology.
3. The Fund is administered by Department of Economic Affairs of the finance ministry.
4. Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has approved a Safe City project for Lucknow at a total cost of Rs.194.44 crore under the Nirbhaya Fund Scheme.
